Russians Love Shopping Sprees
According to a study, 27 per cent of Russian tourists are going to visit
or have already visited foreign countries solely in order to enjoy shopping.
This result was found by American Express Company in a research of the
expenses of Russians while traveling abroad.
Regardless of the aim of the trip, 36 per cent of the travelers have more
than $1000 in cash, card or traveler’s check when abroad. At the
same time 42 per cent of the respondents confessed that they always spend
all the money they have on them.
The research also revealed that Russians don’t limit themselves
and don’t like buying cheap souvenirs. 4 per cent of the respondents
prefer to buy souvenirs worth of up to $50, as many Russians buy clothes
and shoes abroad. 21 per cent of Russian travelers take home modern accessories,
almost 20 per cent buy jewels and watches, 8 per cent buy furs, 5 per
cent are looking for works of art and only 2 per cent spend their money
on home equipment.
Going abroad, Russians are prepared for significant expenses. As it turned
out, Russian travelers believe that excessive spending is one of the most
serious dangers for their money during traveling - almost 40 per cent
of the respondents ranked excessive spending as the greatest danger. On
the other hand, 51.4 per cent considered being robbed as the main danger
for their money.
