Sharjah, 24 th of March 2008: The Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority is gearing up for a new participation at Ukraine International Travel & Tourism Exhibition (UITT) 2008 which will take place at the International Exhibition Centre, Kiev, 26-28 March 2008.

The new participation in the 14 th edition of the annual fair forms a part of the SCTDA's strategy for the continued promotion of Sharjah as one of the region's most desirable tourist destinations and comes on the heels of its resounding success recently at Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition, MITT 2008.

The Ukraine International Travel & Tourism exhibition (UITT) is the largest and most important travel industry event in Ukraine. This year's edition will attract more than 850 participants from 58 countries.

Sharjah's delegation to the UITT 2008 will include the SCTDA, Holiday International Hotel, Radisson SAS Resort, Sharjah Rotana Hotel, Sharjah Premier Hotel and Resort, Golden Tulip Hotel, Tulip Inn Hotel, Lou' Lou Beach Resort, Arabian Link Tours and Al Khalidiah Tourism. The emirate will exhibit via a distinguished stand that will occupy a prominent position in Hall No.1 and will be 38 percent larger than its stand for the last year. Sharjah will be among the most significant new participants from the Middle East in the major Ukrainian tourism activity.

Sharjah's 2 nd participation in UTT is consistent with the authority's keenness to build on its series of successes at external participations and forms a part of its strategy to target new markets. The SCTDA has conducted an in-depth feasibility study of the annual international tourism fairs and their potential for sustainable growth of Sharjah's tourism sector and moving the wheel of economic development forward.

Mr. Yasser Mohammed Zamzam, Senior commercial development executive at the SCTDA stated that the authority will focus on promoting Sharjah's tourist and heritage attractions which will draw the attention of those interested in Arab heritage. He reiterated the importance of targeting the Ukrainian tourism market as a result of the noticeable growth in the inflow of Ukrainian tourists into the emirate. Last year over 12000 Ukrainian tourists visited Sharjah, a 28 percent growth as compared to the figures of 2006.

Speaking of the SCTDA's participation in UITT, Zamzam clarified that the authority has been preparing for this participation with the aim to reap the rewards of such exposure in the shape of an ever-expanding tourism sector and increasing numbers of visitors streaming into Sharjah every year. The SCTDA will seize the opportunity to exploit the presence of over 850 exhibitors to exchange ideas and experiences. The authority will develop new international channels to increase the volume of tourism and investment in the emirate.

Worth mentioning that Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) has made a strong presence in the 14 th edition of Moscow International Travel & Tourism Exhibition, MITT 2008, which took place in Moscow 19-22 March 2008.

The SCTDA's nine consecutive participation in MITT was a bid for a bigger slice of Russian tourist market through promoting the unique attractions of the emirate as an ideal destination for family tourism, as Sharjah has attracted record numbers of Russian tourists during the last four years.

A large number of representatives from Russian travel and tourism agencies visited Sharjah's stand at the show to discuss ways to increase cooperation with Sharjah as the emirate has already become an ideal destination for Russian tourists. The stand attracted representatives of different local and international media who were keen to cover the Sharjah's participation in the fair.
